grub.conf hosed after kernel update

Have you removed the scsi card, as Marco suggested? I would do that before doing anything else. You said that there is nothing connected to it and the system crashes right after the scsi bus is reset. Yank that sucker out and see what happens. Zero risk, and it might solve the problem. Mike --
