Well, I'm not seeing the problem, so this may not be
a solution, but you could try running gimp instead
of xsane and using the File > Create > Xsane...
menu to bring up xsan
I have reinstalled xsane. Everything but the image save function works
fine. xsane produces a good image but when I try to save it, the resulting
image is compressed laterally with the remaining width blacked out. This is
repeatable and I have seen references to the problem in the various forums,
