2. Login to gmail account via browser
3. Click on cogwheel on upper left of browser screen
4. Select Settings
5. Click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP

As I said, out of desperation, I tried an imap account, the Thunderbird
creation process was much different and it tried for messages wi
mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-gmail
