Only if freezing includes the machine crashing.If the machine is not crashing and it recovers from the freeze without a reboot/power cycle then we are back to memory/paging being a problem. Note I have seen swapping act as badly. And it may only be every so often that it runs out of ram.M

I had firefox continually freezing (Xorg) taking the gui with it. I then aliased firefox to: cpulimit -i -l 200 /usr/bin/firefox "$@" and it stopped taking the rest of the gui with it. Recently I (had to) switched to Wayland and firefox (with the alias) has only crashed 3 or 4 times but it has not
