You will need network connectivity first off course, but problem 3 can
be solved by "yum groupinstall "Basic X Window System".
You may need to install a display manager separately but at least
startx should work once this group is installed.

I have successfully installed Fedora 18 with basic functionality on an
UEFI-based lenovo y400 notebook to dual boot with pre-installed windows 8.
Both OS-es boot without a hassle (although to boot windows 8 I need to turn
