Keyboard locking up in FC17

I've read that fc17 is end of life but maybe someone has run into this. I'm running fc17, latest upgrades, using XFCE, and periodically the keyboard just stops working, mouse is fine. I end up having to mouse over ALL of my open windows saving and closing. Once I logoff and logon everything

Gnome broke for one user

All of a sudden I cannot login to a gnome desktop on a 19 64-bit system. After logging in all I get is a grey screen. I've tried hitting Alt-F2 to see if I could start anything, that does no good. Occasionally when playing around with different F keys the screen will turn white or start flick
