Thanks for all of your responses, however the problem seems to have gone
away again. I think the issue initially stemmed from plugging my computer
into a 720p HDTV via VGA while the mode was still set to 1680x1050, so I'll

the latest kernel update for Fedora 12
(kernel-2.6.32.21-168.fc12.x86_64) leaves me with a scrambled screen
using the catalyst driver (ATI Radeon HD 3470). Reverting back to
kernel-2.6.32.21-166.fc12.x86_64 resolves the problem.
