properly set this up?
The general architecture is 3 rest proxies behind a load balancer. Windows web
servers posting messages through the LB to the three proxies.
I have not really seen anyone running this configuration with client
authentication. Any help would be appreciated.

I think we ZK based offset commit. However I am not certain, I would have to
get that from our DEV group. My role is PROD Ops.

Is there a better way to detect consumer lag? Preferably one that is less

Does anyone have any thoughts on Kafka broker backups?
All of our topics have a replication factor of 3. However I just want to know
if anyone does anything about traditional backups. My background is Ops DBA, so
I have a special place in my heart for backups.

Is there a firewall between your DEV and PROD environments? If so you will need
to open access on all ports, not just JMX port.
It gets complicated with JMX.

Thanks for the response. We are using python to grab the JMX values and stuff
them into graphite. We noticed on some graphs that we had a server with 2
underreplicated partitions. The restarted fixed it.

We restarted the Kafka brokers this morning. That fixed the issue.
