I was able to install E17 on another amd64 system with the nvidia driver
install. It has a similar failure. The screen was blank, but on this
system the mouse cursor was displayed, and the keyboard worked.

These are the symptoms that I have. It happens since ubuntu 16.04 and it
affects 2 laptops that I own. Laptop 1 is an asus zenbook core i5 and
the other is lenovo B50-50 core i3. Both laptops are less than 1 year

12.04 for me. I'm running the binary nVidia driver (Machine has a Quadro

304.48 of the nVidia binary blob and the lockups have suddenly stopped
on my system. The FPS in Second Life has gone up to around 10 (better

When booting disabling IOMMU with amd_iommu=off in the kernel command line the
system seems to work fine yet.
I haven't extensively tested this, but yet I have no crash while creating this

Can you SSH in when this happens and do a `top`? See if it uses up 100%
of CPU, if so, I might have this same issue (freeky).

Same problem with an ATI Technologies Inc RS480 [Radeon Xpress 200G Series].
Open Dash and just move cursor over icons a few times and the Kernel crashes.
Verified by no ssh into computer.
