Since you only have 64mb video memory that's probably the limiting
factor. If it your card doesn't have dedicated memory, could you try to

I was affected by this bug. In mid January I Installed PSensor on my
Laptop . I found very high temp spikes before the fan would increase
speed. The graphing mode of PSensor helped me see this. I installed
thinkfan, and set up the parameters to start the fan at low temps (2900
rpm at 48c and full
This bug stopped happening for me as well in 12.04 since actually. I
think I installed nvidia-304 from the nvidia website instead of through
apt in order to get RandR and at the same time fixed the problem.

With a single monitor the bug occurs to me exactly as described above.
By connecting an external monitor and configuring TwinView, the issue gets much
worse: after open or save a file, or other operation, the screen goes black,

I am not sure, when I reviewed bug 568492 it seems like only the font is
distorted and they have been getting some type of error message. I
don't get any error message and my entire screen is so distorted that I
can hardly do anything. I can get thru restarting my computer my
