Thanks for helping out, Bryce. I have a very similar issue with nvidia-
graphics on a T410 (NVS 3100M chipset).
As far as I can say, the problems with the external displayport were
introduced here:

Yes, the patch when cherry-picked into a recentish mainline kernel shows
noticable improvement. Subjectively, it still feels a little "chunky"
when starting up (I think the login manager and gnome 3 both seem to

What do you mean by "can't save the settings"? It should offer to save
the xorg.conf file. And yes it's known that with the nvidia driver the
display configurator doesn't work right, since the driver lacks support
for randr-1.2.

I feel this bug is miscategorized. These man pages should not come from
Mesa, for two reasons:
. not all systems use Mesa; some systems utilize the proprietary drivers, and
they should be able to install these manpages as well.
. Mesa is not the 'upstream' for these manpages, even if they happ
I should have mentioned in the bug report this is during a gnome session.
Unity should have stayed in the Ubuntu Netbook Remix where it belongs, but
that is neither here nor there. Install media was 10.04 LTS, I run the LTS

This looks like a duplicate of bug #944627.
It is most definitely a problem when just running the intel driver as
well as when running the nvidia driver. However, the intel driver
performs at least 20 times more slowly compared to Ubuntu 11.10 (on my
PC right now it is running over a hundred times

I would question the above comment about it being fixed in kernel 3.3 -
I tried upgrading to mainline 3.3.1 and was still seeing the same
behaviour. The pauses were smaller, but still in evidence.
It's a shame, but it looks like I'll have to keep using the nvidia
binary driver for a bit longer :(

For Ubuntu, you need to branch the package:
$ bzr branch lp:ubuntu/xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Then add the patch that adds the remap functionality inside
debian/patches/
As for upstream, please provide the patch in the bug report. It is more
likely to be reviewed if a patch is readily

FWIW, I haven't seen the issue in a couple days. This is after I
installed a Windows XP VM, and now I run my "used to be wine" app as a
Windows app in the VM instead. The app is Navicat. Not sure if the issue
is because of Navicat or Wine.
