Bug 439448 is about the contents of applets getting scrambled, which is
not the case here. Also, the current one is always reproducible, whereas
439448 triggers in an apparently random fashion.
I'll unmark it for now, but if you think it still is,
I confirm that the bug is still there. I install last update this
morning (I saw xserver-xorg-video-ati, -radeon... update so I was
expecting the bug to be solved).
When I restart, I need to reboot more than 5 time before I get a
desktop. And now, when the boot crash, I don't get any shell, screen
reinstall xserver-xorg-video-all, it got removed on the upgrade.

graphical glitches in menu (natty)
I'm having the same problem. Most of the time I boot my systems, it
hangs right after showing the "kubuntu" splash screen and just where it
should show the "Nvidia" one.
If I turn off and on again the computer a few times (2 to 10 times),
eventually it will boot.

I am sure I am not the right person to judge, but is it possible that
it's not even az Xorg server related bug but some kind of kernel problem
when KMS is enabled (the default)? I have no Xorg log at all, and I have
the suspect that system haven't even reached the point to start Xorg

I left my MythTV system running with my main account logged into TTY4
and have had serveral crasahes which produced out; there have also been
two or three crashes that did not produce any output but still locked up
the system.
This trace looks like it is communicating with the recorder I have

Damn it! It happened again. Disabling compiz doesn't help either. Does
anybody have any idea? The logs are empty except for the NVRM: Xid
message that I posted before.

Just to see did go ahead and package/install the current 1.10.2 source
without gl enabled, it brought the mem use at log in back to the
expected amount. (246 vs 602MB, unity login on this machine, slightly
greater diff on the affected p4 1GB

Since there isn't enough info here to really pinpoint what led to this
issue I'm not going to forward the bug upstream. They'd almost
certainly want to see some testing done to verify the cause. Also, a
lot has changed upstream since this was reported so it's likely they'd
want to see i
I'm dropping the 'natty' tag added by Marius since to accept this bug
against the development release we need the info I asked for in a
previous comment.
The bug has been forwarded upstream and upstream developers are aware of
it, and since it's a minor annoyance (rather than an X lockup or crash)

#ubuntu-x lastnight, and he suggested it suits better in 715096, as it is a gpu

I have a similar problem. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on a AMD Athlon X2
64 4800 with ATI HD2600XT and 2GB RAM. Today I wanted to upgrade my RAM
to 4GB. After I've installed the new RAM the locks up after the Ubuntu
loading screen. If I remove any memory chip the PC boots ok. Also if I
boot in Xfail
