My machines affected were also i7. For my main machine the OS is on the
SSD while /home is on striped spinning media (similar throughput to SSD,
higher latency).
The sleep from comment #68 fixed it for me too. Looks like some sort of
race condition when loading things.

the problem is, also root hasn't the rights to use a x-server owned by
an other user. You can force root to use an other users xauthority by
setting the environment variable to the users xauthority data:

am running on an Intel i915 (8086:2A42). I also added "i915.modeset=1"

After making a dist-upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, I got this bug
happening on my Asus Aspire AS1410 laptop. About 5-10 minutes after

so nothing changed since lucid.. it got recognized there aswell and it
also automatically sets mouse events and keyboard events to true
this should be a simple option.. because its a damn hassle to switch it
off (or on if desired... like for people that have difficulties using a
mouse).

I changed my keyboard and mouse to USB, and using the nouveau gfx
driver, and still had two lock ups around a minute after opening my user
session.
Also, (and as pointed earlier,) the machine does not lock up by itself, there
needs to be human activity.

still get problems with video playback even though the audio is working.

experiencing the mouse pointer getting stuck + flickering problem after
upgrading to Lucid. I use absolute screen positioning (since my four
monitors have different sizes), and I have taken care to put the screens
