Thanks, that debuild command is what I was missing. I added a -j4 to the
commandline to take advantage of all CPU cores.
Sadly I get the libGL dependencies errors no matter WHAT I do. No nvidia
package installed (I had nvidia-current, rather than the binary from
nvidia's site, and no fgl
happens on my x41 xubuntu 10.04, only fn f7 doesnt work for me, maybe
its not mapped, anyway I have to:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
for it to reappear

I just installed 10.10 (64-bit) on my X201 3249-39C and experienced this black

My BIOS just updated to 1.22, and the kernerl was 2.6.35-22-generic.

@angandrob: As far as I know this bug cannot be fixed until NVidia
releases xorg 1.9 compatible binary driver. And NVidia has told via its
forum that they will release nvidia-96 driver for xorg 1.9, but it is
low priority issue for them. So all we can do now is sit back, relax and
enjoy our nv/vesa

Long term ubuntu user here... same issue with nVidia GTS360M on Maverick
release.
To get your clean Maverick install booting:
In the grub boot menu edit the "recovery mode" option by hitting "e",
add "nomodeset" to the last line. Ctrl-x to boot.
At the recovery menu choose "root". Install the nv
Same issue here on fresh maverick install. All GPU demanding
applications are unusable.

Ok, I've reproduced it - pressing a volume up/down media key kills the
left button on either a keyboard with a built-in touch pad or on a
standard Microsoft USB mouse. Tested on two computers running 32-bit
Maverick, one of which was a clean install, one an upgrade from Lucid.

Upon starting, the computer (a Dell desktop which has been through
several upgrades) stops booting, two lines after loading the crash

solution that works for a4tech mouse users wich left click don't work
anymore since dist upgrade.
You can solve the problem by typing this: What you see is my output, so
change the 9 before "Device Enabled" to the ID of the Seccon
Manually updating x11-common to x11-common_7.5+6ubuntu3_all.deb prior to
the upgrade, as suggested by mafrasi2, resolved the problem for me.
Uninstalling x11-common seems to be a risky workaround. That's the X11
core. I would think it would bork dependency calculations for the
upgrade pretty bad if
Gateway NV79 with the same problem. Even the Gparted boot disk results
in the same blank screen. Not going to include a bunch of logs as this
is clearly a problem with the xserver-org and HM55 video, culled from
other posts on this exact same subject across the net. Have tried the
32-bit and 64-bit

This is still a problem with the latest maverick for me. I noticed it
when attaching an external monitor to my laptop, which more than doubled
the horizontal screen resolution without increasing the vertical
resolution that much. It made the touchpad incredibly unwieldy.
