Since I upgrade to maverick from lucid I have seen extremely annoying
font corruption while typing which makes unpossible to read what I'm
currently writing. It looks like some extra lines are drawn on top of

I confirm too. Last working version with the nvidia-96 is: xserver-xorg-core
2:1.8.1.902-0ubuntu2.
The solution is downgrade to that package but it breaks some dependencies...

For clarity I should probably have stated in the text that this is an
issue on 10.10 Beta, though this can be seen from the diagnostics.

hi,
thanks for the response. it appears that i am already using radeon
(lsmod gives me some references to radeon), but i don't find compiz to
be working all that well. i don't know if there are some tweaks i
should use or some kind of tuning i can do. in the past it's worked
much better. mayb

The fglrx package has been an ongoing problem since upgrading to lucid
lynx. I am unsure if my previous problems (the UI freezing) are related
to this bug or not, but I would not be surprised.

This is not on kubuntu only - I have exactly the same problem on Ubuntu.
My laptop is not the same as the reporter's (it's a Samsung R430), but
it has the same graphics chipset, has the same backlight setting
problem, I've used the same workaround on Lucid, and now it also doesn't
work on Maverick.

Well, actually I use lirc daemon to intercept fn-keys and call a

When using reboot from main-menu, the screen darkens and the question
"restart" appears. After boot, there is a shading that looks nice ...
after resume the shading are real circles, which leads me to the
opinion, that the color-depth is different
