Hi Onilton, this chipset is so new that the support in Karmic is not very good.
Actually, it will only be officially supported (by intel) in kernel 2.6.33
which will not even be included in Lucid. However, the real-life support has
improved quite a lot from Karmic to Luicid, but since you alread
Christian, it seems that at least the quirks handling seems to work. You
are using the proprietary nvidia driver, which does not need any quirks
(and thus pm-utils disables them, just like hal did). Also, at least the
original reporter's problem

on proprietary drivers which came with the install as well(I don't know
where to look for the version, but after the install a proprietary

After discussion with jdstrand, the following makes my laptop usable:
- Uninstalling plumouth
- Turning off KMS with radeon.modeset=0
- Using an xorg.conf with the following:
- Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
- Option "RenderAccel" "off"

Could you please download the latest Lucid* iso-image and check if you
can reproduce the bug in lucid? You do not have to install lucid,
running the livecd should suffice. Also, because of all the segfaults in
your dmesg, I would recommend a memory test (should be available from
your boot menu).

allows me to login with gdm. I'll report back as soon as I have

I take it the solution was to edit /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98-video-
quirk-db-handler and remove "add_parameters --quirk-no-chvt" in the

Don't now if the patch is supposed to work in Karmic but it didn't work
