I cannot reproduce the freezes in karmic and I am not using any packages
from the PPA.
I think that the freeze said in the freedeskop bug is introduced with more
latest versions of the packages in the X stack. and the freeze in this bug
is a separate issue fixed by some other updates.

I added the repositoriy to my sources.list and installed the packages listed
below fglrx-installer - hope this was all I should do. It does still work with

Well, the workaround to use twinview instead of xinerama works perfectly
for me. Can't see any of the problems other people here have
experienced. The separate screens are even recognized so that maximized
windows maximize to the current screen. The configuration made by the
Nvidia configuration is

Unfortunately I'm not able to use fglrx anymore since upgrading to Jaunty. My
graphics chip (X1300) is no longer supported by ATI from the 8.600 release.
It's really a disappointing level of support from ATI for my not-that-old
laptop (Thinkpad T60), but that's another story.

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg
After closing the lid of my display, when I open it again, nothing shows
up. On -10 it takes a few tries but happens relatively quickly. Also I
can only reproduce once I log into xorg, and only while in xorg.

Can you provide a small example of something that crashes with
instructions on how to compile it then? I was asking which demo because
of this comment:

Ogre3D 1.6.1 is in karmic so I can test that without compiling the whole
thing but I don't have any
Just tested - yes, this fixes the problem. The screen sometimes flashes
white when you open/close too quickly, but at least it no longer
freezes/whatever it did.
No errors in xorg/kernel logs as far as I could see either.

where is this libdrm for you coming from? It looks like a non-standard
package. Some PPA?

Looking through other related bugs, perhaps the libdrm2 that is on the
xorg-edgers PPA is really what's causing the problems.
Can you post the output of this:
apt-cache policy libdrm2
Perhaps some of the debian/control details will need to be modified in
libdrm2 so that fglrx in xorg-edgers work
Do you perhaps have an integrated card that is still showing up on the PCI
bus that is using the i915 driver? If you can disable that in the BIOS,
that should help out and prevent such issues.

Where was that libdrm2 that you had in there coming from in the first
place? Really shouldn't have caused an error message, so it would be good
to sort that out too.

This seems to be a successful bugfix. I have tried several
suspend/resumes in an out of docking and with/without external monitor.
Compiz and, more importantly, the OS, survive without any apparent
glitch. For my subset of used functionality, this is definitely the most
stable version ever. Tha
