I can confirm all problem-related comments in Jaunty. xev shows the button press, mod3 is blank, "xmodmap -e 'add mod3 = Scroll_Lock'" works for current session. I have not applied it to .Xmodmap/.xmodmap yet, as there are conflicting results as to where to put it and whether it works.
