Hi, I'm still encountering this problem and it's more than just the
mouse freezing. There is lots of unusual beahviour affecting my usb
devices. The mouse misbehaving is usually the first symptom. Most times
I have to reboot. It has made my Compaq desktop almost useless on some
days. I've resorted
/mainline/v3.9-raring/ ) my
DisplayLink adapter "just worked" when hotplugged.
I see a few udl-related commits in the mainline changelogs for 3.8.1 &
3.8.8. Is there much possibility of the fix being backported to the
raring kernel?

I have just seen that NVIDIA have released a new driver 295.59 (11th
June 2012) so I'm going to try it in the hope that it's an improvement!

I agree with Peti in that all was well for me in my previous installation
(11.10).oh why did I upgrade???
Well, I assumed that stuff that worked in 11.10 would still work in
12.04.wrong!
It's enough to drive me to mint!but then I'd lose the unity desktop
which I actually like!

After applying the new 295.53 driver, 3D Unity still doesn't work. I
login ok but then I get a black screen and movable cursor.

I have updated to the new 295.53 driver via the normal ubuntu precise update
process yesterday so it must have been rolled out to the
repositoriesunfortunately it has not resolved my problem. If I login to 3D
unity I just get a black screen with a movable cursor. Gnome3 does however work

For anyone wanting a semi-fix that doesn't entail restarting while
waiting for evdev to be updated:
1) Even if the mouse is frozen, press "Alt-F2" and type "gnome-terminal"
without quotes, then Enter.
2) Type "xinput list" without quotes, Enter, and note the "id" of the keyboard
listed under "Vi
