I am a noob at resolving this type of stuff, but I have a Dell Precision
m4700. I have an Intel i7-3540m and Nvidia Quadro k2000m. I don't know
how useful this is, but the battery is busted and doesn't work. Please

Confirmed on both 295.40 (nvidia-current) and 295.49 (nvidia-current-
updates) in Precise. Graphics card 8600GT on a 64-bit AMD processor.
After running Minecraft under Unity-2D for half a minute, X suddenly
becomes very unresponsive and consumes 100% CPU. Simultanously the
following is output to X
I just checked the user account, and I get some sort of crash in
blueman-applet. This laptop has no physical bluetooth hardware installed
(though it has a switch and presumably an empty socket inside). For
whatever reason gnome's Startup Applications app lists blueman-applet as
the sole startup app
The brand sticker on this Acer Aspire 5100-3949 laptop says "Radeon Xpress
1100" and lspci says:

On this Acer Aspire 5100 I just tried the following:

Tried the xorg-edgers PPA and it did not apparently affect this bug; the

HOWEVER as a side note, Unity works with the newer xorg.

New install of Maverick UNE to a new (to me) Acer Aspire 5100-3949. Ran
into this bug, and going through the workarounds. So far the only
workaround that "works" is the one in Bug #576181 (keep the processor
busy with a bash script). Yuck. Especially if you're on battery.

upgrading to the new Lucid kernel: Linux Pisces 2.6.32-16-generic

A couple of times a day X crashes and restarts on my up-to-date Ubuntu
10.04 Lucid installation. In kern.log and dmesg, I get the following

I downloaded an iso of the daily build for Saturday-- Ubuntu 9.10
"Karmic Koala" - Alpha i386 (20090829.2). I booted the iso "live" from a
USB stick and I did not see the reported behavior. Yay!
For a complete test I also copied an iso of the 9.04 "Jaunty Jackelope"
to a USB stick and booted it in
I should add that I see some (minor) rendering issues in Firefox
(background sometimes turns black) and gnome-terminal (garbled rendering
of fonts), but I'm not sure yet if it's an fglrx issue. Separate issue,
in any case.

you are right; not sure what I had done, but I just removed the radeonhd
driver and it still works. I'm not sure what I did to fix it, either. I
am changing the description. Besides installing radeonhd, all I did was
work with the Display Settings tool and log in and out several times.
