FWIW, I just had the same problem in Debian Squeeze with fglrx.
Turns out that the “sleep 1” was a good idea – in Debian, I just
installed file-rc to revert to “legacy” (as opposed to parallel) boot
ordering, which fixed the problem there.

Ok, to clarify: this happens with the radeon driver too. I try to start
unity since the first alpha versions, never got it work. The only thing
that has changed is that I get an Info in the latest dailys that my
hardware is not supported (ATI X600M). Compiz on 10.10 runs smooth with
the free driver
Some more information on this:
When I have alpha blurring enabled in Compiz (without even using it for the
window decorations!), the window menu button really often does not show the
menu when clicked. After disabling the blur effect, the problem still exists,
but not as often as before. WTF? ;)
That was just a warning, so the workaround should still work.

This is not relateted to xserver-xorg-video-intel, because I don't even
have an Intel GFX-Card. I'm using an AMD X600. By the way: the Issue
goes away for a while when using "nautilus -q".
So please: chage the related package back to Nautilus.

The Reason for this on Maverick is the package "unclutter". I never
noticed this tool in Lucid, so I guess it's new. I didn't find a way to
disable it, so I pruged it. Maybe the default behavior should be
changed.

One observation: when the Video-Window has a small size (640x480 a.e.)
everything is fine. When resizing the Window to a larger size, the

After having slowdowns and Video playback problems with KMS, I switched
to UMS via radeon.modeset=0.
Problem as follows: Video Playback works only in Fullscreen, but not
when windowed. I only get Sound and a black Window there. So

Performance is OK, before using the Packages from the PPA I had a choppy
Performance while watching Videos in Fullscreen. This has gone with the
updated Packages and runs smooth now.

With the last updates in Lucid, the ati/radeon xorg drivers are getting
slower and slower. Scrolling in Apllications is lagging, every single
Sreensaver is stuttering (even the simplest) and Compiz is also slow.
The Performance is
I guess I have the same problem here.
Symptoms:
Running 3D-Apps causes the X-Server to hang up (white Screen) and leads
to an unusable System. The same happens when trying to change the
resolution.
Hardware:
Asus V6V, Pentium M, 2GB Ram and an ATI X600M.
I'm not shure, but maybe my Bug #54960
With the fixes from the last week it has gone. I will watch this one or
two days and will post again if I can be shure that it is really away.

I hope this time i filed the Bug in the right place. On Lucid (incl.
updates from 07.01.10) X is aborting when GDM should load. I'm getting
an "Ubuntu runs in low graphics mode" message. Continuing in low
graphics mode works only when Ubuntu was star

I'm not able to find out what exactly goes wrong here and it would be

sending HUP to the X process (after logging in to VT1.)
