When the laptop lid is laid off, all displays are black and stays that
way. When it's open, it works fine. If

My screen freezes several times a day - if I am present, and use the
GUI. The machine runs fine for weeks, if no one is logged in locally on
the GUI.
Sometimes I can exit from GUI, but still no way to restart it - only the
complete system!

I've added the 'nomodeset' parameter to the kernel.
Now plymouth starts with lower videomode, like 640x480, 256 colors, but maybe
this can be fixed with the 'videomode' kernel parameter.
The rendering problem has gone from Google Earth and Neverball, but is
still present in the Pinion screensaver

called Polyhedra (for instance) is just fine.
I don't see what are the differences in the applications (or opengl
contexts) causing the glitch, because it is obviously a driver bug.

I have the same problem with ATI Mobility X1250.
Some notices:
The problem appears always in Google Earth and Neverball, only after a
few mouse-clicks in Blender (but never with orthographic projection),
and never in Danger from the Deep for example.
Only the vertices off the screen are projected
MilchFlasche: It was a clean install. Even the LiveCD was not able to boot. I
had to install from the alternate CD, but after the install, it was not work at
all. Now I use "i915.modeset=1", and it works.
Today the driver was updated, I will try to boot without this workaround.
