Additionally, I noticed this issue on Linuxmint 20 (Ulayana) release
installed on a Lenovo T580 Thinkpad. The displays attached via USB3.0
(dell D3100) totally become stuttery and unusable. The Xserver fix
provided by DisplayLink makes it useable

Please do reconsider backporting this for stable releases because the
current setup is completely broken and it's probably not a good idea to
leave it thus since it takes quite a while to figure out what is going
wrong.
If it's likely it'll not be backported, please do consider informing

When I install pyopencl, the KDE desktop effects stop working. The
problem is that pyopencl depends on nvidia-current and nvidia-settings
and these get installed when I do not have an nVidia GPU. Also, since
the correct ICD(AMD/Intel for CPUs and not nVidia) is not installed,
pyopencl wouldn't work
Could this be backported to 12.04 since the release will be supported
for at least 4 more years?

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
This bug appears to have been reported under #492271.
I upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty. Upgrade was smooth, but immediately
after restart Karmic froze after login in about a minute. Serach on
forum yielded following workarounds
The hangs do not occur every time I blank the screen using xset dpms force off.
Sometimes it occurs the 1st time I do it, sometimes after many blanks.
I'm on jaunty with the 2.6.28-11-generic kernel, with the latest
xserver-xorg-core and have the xserver-xorg-video-intel packages from the

Video tearing with composite seems to have been solved upstream.

With the latest drivers from the xorg-edgers ppa there doesn't seem to
be any tearing. Although, it did cause some system hangs on screen
blanking using dpms/screensaver.

I had the same problem on Intrepid as well. On Jaunty the frequency of
videos on which X freezes seems to have increased.
