Thank you for your very quick and helpful guidance, Daniel. I will sleep
far easier in the future, my eyes now spared from blue light! The
contents of prevboot.txt contained the following pertinent excerpt:
/usr/libexec/gdm-x-session[1415]: Data incomplete in file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-touchpad
I encountered this bug today. Although the monitor was on, I could not
get a signal till I turned it off and on. Then I just got 1024x768.
Weirdly though, Wayland was in use with no Xorg server running.
Now that I try to reproduce the bug again, I can't. I just get Xorg as
described in bug 1919400
If the OBS issue is related to this then it will be in some common
component like a library or the shell. We don't need to add a task for
each app. This problem is too low level for apps to have any control
over it.

For NVIDIA cards, use VDPAU. Most media players (if not all) have auto-

to force VDPAU. The message " Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-

Thanks for the bug report.
Please:
1. Reproduce the black screen problem again.
2. Reboot in a mode that avoids the problem.
3. Run:

The statement "apport-bug thinks it's running on Xorg" appears to be
false. Apport created this bug and correctly identified that you are
using Wayland (see the Tags section).
While all graphics bugs do get assigned to the 'xorg' source package by
default, that's a minor annoyance and I suspect is
This is a very important issue because there are some GLX apps doesn't
work with PRIME offload so they need Nvidia to be the default.

Please try booting the newer Ubuntu 22.04 release from USB:

If that fixes the problem then I would recommend installing 22.04
instead.
