Update: Today if I try GBM_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 on my desktop Mir gets:
60 FPS in the egltriangle client
30 FPS in the compositor (17ms/frame)
or:
60 FPS in the flicker client
60 FPS in the compositor (3.3ms/frame)

Many, many, many thanks!! It worked.
I do apologize for checking the security box: I thought it was a

These are the symptoms that I have. It happens since ubuntu 16.04 and it
affects 2 laptops that I own. Laptop 1 is an asus zenbook core i5 and
the other is lenovo B50-50 core i3. Both laptops are less than 1 year
old.
Anyhow when ubuntu starts sometimes (lets say 10% of the time) the
touchpad does

I was able to install E17 on another amd64 system with the nvidia driver
install. It has a similar failure. The screen was blank, but on this
system the mouse cursor was displayed, and the keyboard worked.

Incomplete for miral, we can't fix this in miral directly. The way focus
works in Mir does seem odd and I'm surprised that the workarounds
(ignoring focus loss) in the Qt and Gtk toolkits are "good enough". When
we have a plan, then will reassess how miral is affected.
