I tried two nights ago to install the alpha 2 but was unable to do it.
When I tried, ubiqity was starting the bouncing cursor and then stopping.
When I did the command from the shell, I found that it was failing to

fwiw: I hit this using the latest from Nvidia's download site, and
also using the xorg-edgers ppa ( 346.47-0ubuntu1-xedgers14.04.1 ).
The flipping in the terminal seems to be at the same speed as the cursor blink.
I only noticed it in gnome terminal. xterm does not exhibit the problem.

Just for the record, I have the same problem on my Dad's machine.
Same 82865G graphics card, all worked under Precise but since upgrading to
Trusty (and some time struggling with Stellarium 0.13 before getting 0.12.4) I
get the white screen and the same errors as above.
I am seriously thinking of
Installed 14.04.2 on my current laptop and cannot install fglrx drivers
as above. Reverting install to 14.04.1.

Get this conflict when installing Wine 1.6 and 1.7 in 14.04. Im running
Bumblebee so my Nvidia driver is 304.
I've not tested the workaround with installing:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-cuda-toolkit
sudo apt-get install ocl-icd-opencl-dev
sudo apt-get install wine
Will not risk my setup..
