CTRL-F1 and then back to CTRL-F7 works sometimes.
Either the whole screen freezes (clock stuck, mouse/kb frozen --
requires a force reboot) OR a single window freeze
Maybe they are actually several bugs. And I don't know if this is
important but when I wake my laptop from suspend:
1) No matter if I have xscreensaver installed or not, the screen keeps as if it
was off and everything else seems to be working.
2) I can "wake" my laptop with ANY KEY.

MaxDoubleTapTime in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d\50-synaptics.conf) does
not govern the Synaptics double-tap.

the same issue in post-precise installations. Open drivers are better,
but we can't use them because we can't use the display after suspend.

I can hear the login sound, so I know it booted that far.
If I start in rescue mode, and then pick (I believe it was) failsafe
graphics, it does work and comes up at a low resolution.

symlink /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libGL.so

Found how nouveau was being loaded while blacklisted: it's in the
initramfs and nvidia-331_hybrid.conf wasn't.
This can be fixed by updating the initramfs (sudo update-initramfs -u,

Please give us our Right Ctrl key back. Forcing everyone to make his own
.Xmodmap to bypass the bug *is* the disproportionnate thing IMO.

I have tested Maarten's latest work on the Qt library, and I can confirm that
it solves the issue on both tablets and non-tablets. Maarten's work is
available here (you only need to update the qt packages):

Both GPUs are used by default. If you attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and
/var/log/gpu-manager.log we can see what's going on.
In any case I wouldn't expect to find any options in the AMD panel to
switch between the two GPUs. That's only available on Intel+AMD systems.

I've found out how /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-331_hybrid.conf disappeared:
nvidia-331's postrm explicitly deletes it, but as it's a conffile
reinstalling nvidia-331 doesn't put it back. However, having it present
doesn't fix the main bug.

The problem seems to be connected to unity. If I run a KDE session I
wasn't able to reproduce the problem, but unity just freezes after
running a while without me actively doing anything with the box (audio
was running).
