I finally got this bug into a can yesterday. I thought it had gone away,
but it started showing up again, though very rarely. Then yesterday, I
found a way to reproduce it. At least it worked twice in a row. If
someone will tell me what to do, maybe it will be possible to diagnose
it now.
The situ
I've just seen that this also works for me:

* Resetting X
* Logging on normally
I.e. an X reset, even without pressing the [Enter] key so that it hangs

Just a note that I rolled back to the karmic repo and tried the "new"
x11perf command. It didn't cause a freeze for me after about 6 or 7
tries. Brian did note that it's not going to cause the freeze 100% of

Yes. Since this is likely caused by the intel-drm driver in the kernel,
this might work. If this doesn't have the desired effect there's no
problem reverting back to the old kernel.

Rebooting after relatively lon
Hi.
I have found out that a very simple workaround works for me: suspend and resume.
It is not so easy to trigger suspend while the screen is blinking. Therefore I
have configured the machine to suspend when the power button is pressed. Thus
my workaround in fact means pressing the power button,

To solve this problem temporarily you need to change the gstreamer
configuration:
Type in your console: gstreamer-properties
Now go to Video -> Default Output
and select plugin: X Window System (without Xv)

ok, I went back to source code and had a quick look. since the screen
is set wrong, i placed a fudge in the code to test. since I didn't want
to take chances the fudge was for 1024x768. Xorg.0.log now has
(--) SIS(0): Detected LCD/Plasma panel (max. X 1024 Y 768, pref.
1024x768, RGB24)

Hi Team. This has also been driving me crazy, I have tried visual
effects and nothing makes a difference. I first noticed this issue in
9.04 and currently have done a rebuild to 9.10, no change. I have also
tried with RT kernal via Ubuntu Studio, no change do have a small HP
laptop with integrated
better upstream bug - and it might have a fix!
