On Karmic i386 (up to date as of 10/25/09) with a Foxconn Atom
barebones. After logging in to gnome, I have a lockup within 5 seconds
of a compiz effect, 3d effect (screensaver or other 3d app) appearing on
the screen. Removing compiz from the system and disabling 3d
screensavers avoids the lockup.

I need to correct two things. First of all, I meant "Klearlooks."
Secondly, I attempted to use several other settings, and each one
rendered the same result. The only way I can successfully boot my
system with all icons and panels is with "oxygen" selected.

Sorry folks. I haven't been here in a while. The problem still exists,
but only with Compiz turned on. I have an NVidia graphics card with the
NVidia drivers installed. I have, since, turned off Compiz and the

Karmic with the latest upgrades from today. Hardware is a MacBook 3,1.
Backlight is also not working with KMS enabled. Using the "nomodeset"
option during boot at least gets xbacklight to work again. Although
closing the lid is not turning off the backlight. This used to work with
Jaunty.

a background in "Apparance" "Arriere Plan" or in English "Appearance"
"Background" .. You select a random image as a backgorund and put the

I did more testing today.
It does not seem to be problem of cursor itself.
It seems to be related with HW.
I resumed from suspend and cursor was locked. Than I have pluged in
my USB mouse and cursor works fine. If I have my mouse pluged in
all the time there is no problem. So it looks like t

regressions with the intel driver at all.

Same problem as discribed above.
How can I fix it?
I am very happy with Karmic, and I am one step away to complete a change from
Windows Xp.
But this Bug is holding me.

Another reason to think the problem is in KMS is that this only happens
when KMS is used. With KMS disabled (when nomodeset is passed as an
argument to linux from the boot loader) the fonts are normal.

follow those instructions, it is just for older versions. Can you update
your Karmic installation fully, and then please execute the following
command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a
terminal:
apport-co

soon time for release
