the Rhythmbox 0.12.0 music player.
What I found is that if I bring up the Rhythmbox and play some music,
then open the video in Movie player (or gxine or VLC), the video then

Font smear problem fixed on this i830 IBM Thinkpad R31.
Video performance is still pretty sluggish at 65 seconds on GtkPerf

I now found out that the gray stripes have to do with the
"compositing_manager" option under /apps/metacity/general . When
enabled, I see the gray stripes. When disabled, I see my desktop but see
garbage in some apps e.g. the VLC window (might be all Qt interfaces
which fail).

The latest xserver-xorg seems to not recognize this card anymore. To
force it to use the ati driver, add the line

Similar problem here.
Usually I get corruption at the top of the screen in konqueror and Dolphin. The
problem in Kate often appears between the text of the center. Sometimes appear
as the file attached by Martin, others like screenshot that I uploaded. Not

The key was to tell me to change "via" to "openchrome". The instructions
say to change vesa, and there was none. Also, there are several Device
sections in the xorg.conf file, so I never knew which to change.

attaching to a 22" external monitor.
The Dell Mini 9 has a native resolution of 1024x600.
The 22" external monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050
The resolution that displays when they are connected to each other is 800x600.
