telling me there's an update to install: libpath-class-perl - but it
wants to upgrade to the version already installed: 'from ver 0.51-1 to

Hi Folks
does anyone know what the criteria is for incorporating new stable packages
from existing applications into the various repositories?
For instance, if within Gnome a new stable version of one of it's component
programs were launched, how soon would it be before it were available in the

Hi Folks
One of the many topics that have my interest at the moment is that of high
performance computing by using cluster / parallel computing. Can Ubuntu
support this without a lot of hacking around?

Basically we're talking security updates or critical bugs that are
likely to effect a lot of users.
For new stable packages, you will need to wa
Chris and Chris, thanks!
Just so I got it clear in my own mind
When a major Distro is released all associated packages are frozen at that
point within the repositories until the next major release. The exception
being where there is a security flaw or bug in that particular package. If

Anyone had any further thoughts on why the update manager is saying that
I have less than 200MB in /usr yet I have 1.5GB?
It's stopping me updating, something I wanted to do over the weekend but
have failed miserably.
Failing that, how else can I upgrade? Can I do it manually? dist-upgrade
