I'm a newcomer here, and to Linux. I just successfully upgraded an
elderly Compaq desktop from 6.10 to 7.04. But the update manager keeps
telling me there's an update to install: libpath-class-perl - but it
wants to upgrade to the version already installed: 'from ver 0.51-1 to
ver 0.51-1'. When I do the update, apparently successfully, the update
manager continues to report that the package needs to be installed.

So I uninstalled it completely, and reinstalled ver 0.15-1 again, but
Fiesty continues to signal that it should be updated.

I've checked out the package in the apt cache, and the files themselves
in the directories they're supposed to be in, and they're all installed,
AFICS. But the update manager seems not to have logged this.

I'm pretty much at the limits of my knowledge now, and I'd be very
grateful if anyone was able to suggest a next step.

TIA
