In fact I think that they have just stopped having Windows free software
on them, since Dapper. A number of items from the Open CD were on there.

Yes, it worked :PI know the feeling, I'm in yr10 at a school in Warrington, NW, and I'm trying to convert people too. Giving out the free CDs is always good, I take it they're the 5.10 (Breezy Badger) version. Make sure you get some Dapper ones ordered.
