Binary package hint: winbind
winbind 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 installs and works, but nothing involving apt
works after it's installed. Update manager doesn't find updates,
running sudo apt-get install [any package] fails with a message about
"something wicked happened". Reloading
I currently don't have winbind installed, so there's nothing relevant in
syslog (as far as I can see, which isn't very far!). Which steps should

Sorry I didn't respond to your earlier message. Since I have only
ubuntu systems in the house, I didn't actually need winbind, although
for some reason I have to use numerical addresses without it. So, since
I had a workaround, and other things came up, I sort of forgot all about
