This appears to be a behavioral change to the shutdown(2) function. The
socket gets only partially shut down. It's like "close()" was called
instead of "shutdown()" which is supposed to kill the socket everywhere.

I am currently having this issue, but it might not be an ntp bug, but
rather a kernel bug.
If you assign an IPv6 address to a virtual device composed of real sub-devices
(e.g. to a bonding or bridge interface), the address will be wrongly detected
as duplicate (marked as "tentative dadfailed").

I still have this problem on a hardy (8.04 x64) machine. All servers
that were upgraded to lucid (10.04 x64) were fixed until the latest
update. I have to manually restart winbind, which takes seconds but is
an inconvenience and requires me to be around to do it. I tried a cron

Actually I just saw where smbd starts and is respawned several times
before lo is up, so indeed we need at least lo up for smbd to function
properly with the default config.

euca-add-user adds a new disabled user, and there is no visi
Output from running ntpd -n on a maverick host with no ipv4 enabled
including localhost.
This code has changed maverick->natty to deal with ipv6 better (by the
looks of it).

I've done some further investigation into this issue.
maverick exhibits the same symptoms as lucid; i.e. if the 127.0.0.1
address is not bound ntp exits on startup.
natty appears to deal with this scenario OK; removing 127.0.0.1 in a
post-up step does not impact ntp.
