[Ubuntu-phone] [Development] Newbie troubles: No valid kits found

I forgot to mention that I too went digging around for any files in my home directory that smelled of either Ubuntu SDK or QT configuration and deleted them -- though being new to this, it's quite possible I missed something. And tried a purge / re-install cycle of the SDK packages. No joy. I DID

Oh, right: I forgot. I tried some of that too. (In fact it was my comment on the Ask Ubuntu link you posted which read: I get "The qmake executable /usr/bin/qmake could not be added: Timeout running '/usr/bin/qmake' (3 ms)." – Ubuntourist Aug 10 a

Blast. I thought you had it, seeing as how, after your suggestion I looked and found the /usr/bin/qmake was a symlink to qtchooser. But nay: The qmake executable /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/qt5/bin/qmake could not be added: Timeout running '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/qt5/bin/qmake' (3 ms). -- Mail

What about this: Is there a project tarball (or bzr repository) of some sort that I could download and then point qmake at it from the command line (with whatever debugging / verbose options turned on) to see what happens? Keep in mind I don't really know what I'm talking about. So it would have

I finally resorted to creating a new user and doing nothing but logging in and immediately starting Ubuntu SDK upon first login. That worked like a champ. So, now I'm trying to see what leftover stuff in my regular account could be messing things up. I did a comparison of the files in the virgin

Still haven't solved it but I do have another data point: Since Kubuntu is installed as well, I logged in after selecting KDE in place of Unity. Ubuntu SDK started right up, and found everything it needed, offering up a few more project types as well. Logging out and switching back to Unity, the
