When I read this bug, bug #285595, it appears to be filed against
Hardy? Please give more information in the bug report, such as what
version of Ubuntu, if it is intrepid, which ISO image.
Also, take a look at Debugging Procedures,

tories.
There are many apps available which official repositories do not list,
and the user can install on their own. That they elect not to add the
repository to the list should not be reason to say the app is not
needed by the user.

it to be several cd's if it does include an Office suite, Graphics

might not be on that _one_ CD they can get. Nor is there any thought of
having to be online to get all that. Windows needs several CD
ports to confirm the bug is an issue, which means two people
where this is an issue need to confirm the bug is valid.
Thanks,

I thought Ubuntu moved from Metacity to Compiz just about a year ago?

Well, I guess I should say I agree most of the time with BUGabundo.
Since he does state things, I see no point in jumping in with "me too".
Which, come to think of it, does make him my spokesman unless I speak

Thanks.

That won't work either. Firefox demands the restart even if you restart
the system. A simple "the system has been restarted" is not enough for
it. You still must restart firefox to get the warning to go away.

This will not help them, but could help many others out there. It will
also relieve much of the load on the mailing list and IRC, where
questions sometimes get lost in the mix.
On the other hand, I don't believe one-on-one is right. There should

ow the release numbers are
actually used would be beneficial. 9.12 would really be released in
December of 2009, not a week or two from mow.
Ubuntu tries real hard to maintain a 6-month release schedule. 9.10 is
released in the 10th month of 2009.

Indeed, the first indication should be when I see that the system
stops. Unfortunately, I can not see that. There is no indicator to tell
me the system stopped. My system takes a minute or two to start up.
Without the indicator, I can NOT tell if it stopped working.

Personally, I prefer claws-mail, which allow
at those who
triage bugs are going to ask for if they are not included. What is bad
about that? It never stops you from adding your comments prior to
allowing that to happen. If you the needed log files, the distribution
version is entered already.
Even expert users should appreciate the
r to tell a new person to look you your home, it is under
your USER, than to tell them to look in your SHORT name. We use $USER
in programs, but I don't know if any use a variable called $SHORT ?

That depends on the application and perceived value. People will buy
applications that are better than what is in the free stack.

You ask the developers to "give the user the choice of his/her desktop
customization". You have that choice, as demonstrated by your own
design of your suggested changes. Make those changes for yourself. Let
me keep my desktop as I am used to it.

Unity in 11.10 is way more stable than in 11.04. Also, why Gnome 3 if
Unity is the main desktop environment for Ubuntu now? Shouldn't it be
the showcase to present, if you are giving out Ubuntu CD's?
