Public bug reported: My laptop's sound card needs a little configuration of the channels volumes in alsamixer to provide good sound. After a fine tune in alsamixer, the sound is great, but if I change the volume in gnome's sound preferences it does not only affect the master volume in alsamixer

I already tried that, but it doesn't change anything. I was also able to reproduce it on my desktop computer, upgraded to oneiric too, which alsa-base.conf or anything else about alsa has never be modified. The method to reproduce it is very simple : 1 - open a terminal and execute 'alsamixer' 2
