I already tried that, but it doesn't change anything.

I was also able to reproduce it on my desktop computer, upgraded to
oneiric too, which alsa-base.conf or anything else about alsa has never
be modified.

The method to reproduce it is very simple :
1 - open a terminal and execute 'alsamixer'
2 - lower some of the volume controls (PCM, Front, Surround, Center, LFE and 
Side)
3 - raise or lower the volume via the sound control in the upper bar or 
shortcuts : it raises all the volumes in alsamixer to the max, or almost...
