I have switched to using nouveau, which I understand is replacing nv.

So you're suggesting he buy the ns30 dvd drive. Its cheaper to just dual
boot or switch to mandriva, but thanks for your efforts in development.

Probably best to not be running X, yeah. Using sudo would probably
delete it, but start the PC in rescue mode anyway.
