Strange - this behaviour just re-occurred this afternoon, after I posted
the previous message.
In the "messages" log, I see:

The problem is intermittent - cannot be reproduce
I'm not familiar with gdb or backtrace.
Can you suggest how to autostart gdb with panel, but without a UI until
panel explodes ?
This problem happen very infrequently, so it is impractical to try to do
this manually.

I have a similar problem.
Installed unbuntu 7.04 which works fine. Then installed kubuntu-desktop using
synaptic and that went fine. In trying to switch desktops or using k3b i have
the same errors listed above. In fact all kde problems give the same error

Same here,
I upgraded to gutsy gibson recently, I tried kubuntu-desktop and removed it.
The gnome-appearance-properties hangs taking all CPU, looks like if I
scroll it sometimes refreshes the window.
I removed the gtk-qt-engine and not it is working.

In my Lenovo-300 Y410, I had to set "Node [0x19] Pin" VREF to 50 to make
the microphone to work. Also, I kept Val[0] and Val[1] to '0' to reduce

To confirm I have the same problem. I see exactly the same message on my
HP Laptop. All updates are in place.
It is not a good thing to have when you are demonstrating the virtues of
Ubuntu to windows and other users.

that hardisk had a vfat partition before -- formatted using
mkfs.ext3 (or mkfs.ext2 and then converted -- the disk is at least three years
in its present form so i do not recall, but it was definitely one of those two)
- and yes, looking at the first few bytes of it looks as if those vfat
byte
first sector of /dev/sdb1

it worked! of course i had a working backup of the first sector so I believe
I was safe. now it does NOT mount with vfat and ext3 works fine.

1. Did a upgrade from eft to fawn.
2. My pc has two hard drives -- now sda and sdb. sdb has just the one
partition sdb1 -- ext3.
3. sdb1 is recognised as ext3 and mounted on /media/hdc1 (in eft it was
