Unity 2D solved this problem too. I don't think my computer is that
old, but my ATI card seems to hate Unity 3D.
And with Unity 2D all the other applications start faster!
I hope the Ubuntu Community never stop supporting Unity 2D.

I have an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 and additional drivers or propietary
are not available for me. I ran the command 'lshw -c video' to know my
driver and in configuration says: "driver=radeon"
I can't watch flash videos (i.e. YouTube) in fullscreen because they are
choppy and the sound is garbled
I just found out about enabling HTML5 on YouTube:

Really slow and choppy fullscre
I forgot to mention that I was using Firefox 7.0.1, but Chromium solved
my problem, although sometimes I still get crackling sound and video is
not so smooth, but at least is watchable and listeneable. Thanks for
reading.
