I haven't tried the new intrepid, I have xp installed now but the issue
still occurs (with XP). It is the hardest bug I've had to troubleshoot
because it is completely random. It can work for weeks and then it gets
into a boot fit. Then it slowly returns to normal. I have new ram and
new video card

Update 2, Turns out my bios got corrupted by the ubuntu reboot, flashing
the bios after reinstalling my computer to its original state (dell
hidden partition with DSR, windows XP) solved the problem. I flashed the
bios while still having both OS's installed but it did not work, only
after deleting

I am having the exact same problem. I have a nvidia Geforce 7300 LE
card.
If I enable the nvidia driver (instead of nv), when I logoff I get a
window saying "could not detect monitor or graphic card, server will run
in low graphics mode" (something like that) with
configure/shutdown/continue butt
