Same here Richard. I also did gksudo nvidia-xconfig to check if the
driver was actually installed, Nvidia was clearly listed under 'System
Device', and though i am glad that nothing actually 'crashed'--isn't
everything supposed to go blank when a system crashes? I think i can
live with these pseudo

I did try from a source, but then i filed this crash report, removed clamav,
and installed clamav-base and all dependencies from Synaptic (marked with
the ubuntu circle)--i messed up the works somehow, before, but cannot point
out how. Went to recovery mode and everything seems okay, Couldn't you
Same here, Linux 2.6.28-15-generic i686, single user. And everybody
seems to be happy with having to use the 'noapic' solution. Meanwhile,
Canonical keeps rolling out distros like car models (more power to
them), but i wish they would pause to clean up this nasty imperfection--
it's been so long!
Never had the problem since i switched to Mint (same kernels), have
recently updated from 2.6.31-16 to 2.6.31-17 myself, so it's definitely
something to do with the update manager.
