Sound just about woke the house the first time I booted up into 9.10
I also noticed that volume all the way down = no sound at all

I just wanted to chime in here. I also am on a fully updated 12.10 (x64)

Dual Monitors
There is no way that this is intended. When looking at enormous
spreadsheets, or working with very large complex graphics I need to be
able to span the monitors. And I imagine others have this need also.
