I tried to use usb creator to create a read-write partition of 1 GB.
My computer got slow, and I checked using top, and "dd" was taking a large
amount of memory, and continually increasing (hundreds of megabytes). The
command was cop
I added the PPA and installed the packages from it.
Running "gst-inspect0.10 | grep mpeg2" prints a line "ffmpeg:
ffenc_mpeg2video: FFMPEG MPEG-2 video encoder"
But I still get the annoying "plugins" message and brasero will not burn
a dvd... :(
Do you have any idea what should be done?

OK, This can be closed. The reason (and the burg) was/is in the package
linux-backports-modules-2.6.30-10-generic
which I had inadvertently installed together with a bunch of updates.
After I completely removed the linux-backports-* it works again.

I have the same problem since I've made my session login automatically.
The problem does not seem having a link with vnc or nx tools.

The "bug" was caused by the -via driver being also present on the
installed system (say you installed it, or something did). As Xorg
matched the PCI id for both, openchrome and via, drivers it chose to use
via, and not openchrome. Removing the via package should be more than

This seems to be due to the 9 byte packgage format used by dells dualpoint.
There is a patch[0] on the lkml that fixes that behaviour, though it's probably

The default is: apparmor.enabled=0 selinux=1which "stops loading"
The following option combos boot OK:
apparmor.enabled=1 selinux=0
AND
apparmor.enable=0 selinux=0
This kernel, at least on my machine, does not run SELINUX. I will
enable apparmor and will not attempt to remove SELINUX.

If you only want to get a working skype client give skype-static-oss a

Exactly same behavior on Kubuntu, alpha 3 and alpha 4.
I upgraded from 9.04 and lost wireless connections, but the button did
turn wireless on and off (with no response from knetworkmanager though).
A clean install with alpha 4 produced the same results as repoted by
other people here and in forum

I'm using an Nvidia card as well and the problem exists with FF 3 as

This happens because the .manager file format has been slightly changed.
As a workaround add
Name=gabble in the [ConnectionManager] section.
The new package of cohoba will fix this.

FWIW, during Debconf 2006 (in Mexico) we (me and some DD) suggested to
Mark Shuttleworth and Matt Zimmerman to put a Debian logo on the Ubuntu
