I'm having the exact same problem. It tends to happen when I don't touch
the computer for a while (aka watching a video fullscreen or I'm away
and the screensaver has turned on). However, it doesn't always happen
(two nights ago my computer didn't freeze while I slept but last night
it did).

Just an update: In Gutsy, this error is fixed. In firefox in Feisty,
Pango was enabled by default (or maybe disabled by default?).
Regardless, the default setting for Pango was switched in Gutsy and now

When I reported the bug I was in Edgy and I'm not sure which version of
firefox. I've since updated and am now in stable Feisty and using the
Ubuntu version of firefox 2.0.0.3. The bug still exists here. Note also
that the Hebrew vowels in firefox on Windows are displayed correctly.

Not only is /var/tmp the directory for that the Canon created "dirvers"

I think that is error is now causing very high CPU usage. Typically my
CPU load averages are under 1. They usually range like thus: .5 to .8
for all time frames (1 min, 5 min, 15 min). Currently my avgs. are 3.00
to 4.00. These high loads started after HPLIP's "No systray" on daily
power up.

In the above post, I was in error about hplip causing the high CPU
usage. I have changed my Desktop management from Gnome to Unity. The hp
systray icon is back on the panel. I apologize for the CPU usage

Everything freezes. The clock on my screen shows the seconds. which has
also frozen. Pressing ctrl-alt-f2 etc, to get to a login prompt doesn't
work. Only a hard reset can clear it.
I have installed the amdgpu pro drivers, supplied by AMD, and will see if
that helps resolve the issue.

This flaw (or bug) has caused 2 different problems. It has prevented the
desktop (/home/mark/Desktop) from being stable. At boot time (cold or
warm) the objects on the /Desktop load, but after a few seconds vanish.
The file manager behaves much the same way. When called or invoked the

I had this problem when upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10. The temporary fix
