Thanks Scott but in mine HP 6730b with Ubuntu 8.10 and Kernel 2.6.27-7
(or 8) the brightness doesn't change. The display shows the "sun popup"

previously the Update Manager had proposed to update about 80 packages,
after an initial install of Alpha 3, but then offered only a Partial
Upgrade option so I closed that and opened Synaptic which actually
proposed an update for about 100 packages and installed all of them but
gave an error just
Looks like no one will ever fix this bug. As a workaround you can...
1) Right click on the dxf file from Nautilus
2) Select "Open with Other Application..."
3) Use a custom command: qcad %s
This worked for me (on gutsy). Hope it helps.

I corrected my grub.cfg as far as I understood that I could change the mode
(after opening this bug).
The system works perfectly after UUID modification;
The problem still exists for automatic update-grub

Agree with Nathan. This bug might make many people take Ubuntu of their
macbook (et similar) once upgraded to Lucid. Basically many characters
and key combination are unfeasible with this bug around.

HI all,
I'm Trying to make autofs running.
It seems suffer the same "rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote
locking"
Forcing statd to run manually solve the issue.
Same Autofs configuration was working fine in 9.10.

a partial answer to my problem :
The ftp version of ubuntu seems to be newer and more complete than the one
existing on windows, and instructions are slighly differents :
this is (strongly) inspired by job done by people working on Fritz AVM:
