It's very hard to replicate issues, furthermore because after the first day of
"low-graphic mode" the system never asked me more.
Anyway sometimes Kwin seems to crash (screen freeze, go black and reappear
without effects and transparencies). Next time this happen I'll post the Xorg
log.
But now
It's not like the previous "checked screen" I mentioned but looks like.

So is this tty screen you're getting frozen? Because I have a similar
issue and when I resume from a suspend, I either get a black screen (no
backlight) or a frozen tty screen.
If its not frozen you can Ctrl+Alt+F7 back into the GUI.

When you see GRUB, press "e" for edit boot options on Ubuntu. Then add
that line to the end of the options. If it works, great; but GRUB will
not remember preferences the next time you boot so, "sudo vi
/boot/grub/menu.lst" in a terminal and add it there.
