I am fairly new to Ubuntu 10.04 and am amazed that this turns out to be the cause of my problem. It is the first thing I tried on Ubuntu and it has taken me a couple of days to find out that it doesn't work from a corporate situation. I had the impression that Ubuntu was ready for serious use - now I am not so sure. I am not going to edit text files to get a connection to the internet working!
